Sarah took the advertising department from our company on a round-trip to meet with a potential client including Sarah a total of 12 people took the trip she was able to purchase coach tickets for $390 and first-class tickets for $1120 she is her total budget for airfare for the trip which was $11,250 how many first class ticket did she buy?how many coach tickets did she buy?

Y = # of 1st class tix

 

X + Y = 12  -->  Y = 12-x

 

390X + 1120Y = 11250

 

 

substituting first equation into second:

390X + 1120( 12 - X) = 11250

 

390X + 13440 - 1120X = 11250

 

-730 X = -2190

 

      X = 3   ----->   Y = 9

 

3(390) + 9(1120) = 11250

 

She bought 3 coach tickets and 9 first class tickets
