Teisha, we are given two ordered pairs. If 2003 = 0, we have (0,7225) and (12,23041).

 

To find the slope, we do change in y/change in x, making sure we go in the same direction.

(23041 - 7225)/(12 - 0) = 1318.

 

We can use either point for our equation.

y - 7225 = 1318(x - 0)

y - 7225 = 1318x

y = 1318x + 7225

 

2030 - 2003 = 27

y = 1318(27) + 7225

y = 42,811

 

The slope is 1318, meaning that, on average, 1318 stores open every year.
