HI Martin! Firstly, the 500 word essay is up to you! It may seem overwhelming, but when writing a draft, you may find that you have a great deal to say--Especially about Taylor's argument about Academic Integrity.
What are the Real World Consequences grom plagiarizing someone else's essay? What does someone gain or not gain by their choices?
Honesty is one of the notable qualities, right? What someone learns in training or classes, etc., helps to prepare one for everyday life, not just an assignment to get a grade. You can brainstorm on that point made in the story.
What is the point of taking a course? To learn something --and not just whatever the instructor or a professor is saying. Your own discoveries and point of view have value, too! There is a lot of pressure to be what others consider perfect or "right"--whatever their being right would be. But how do we improve things? How do we innovate? Edit?
There is also the issue of being responsible and professors, instructors are guides. They are not there just to tell you what to do, but there are instructions and guidelines, whether it's within this story, or the course about this story, and so on. What do Rules and guidelines mean to you, asides from this story? How does one apply this to a job or a relationship? How would someone feel if this happened to their own work, without acknowledgement?
Faculty are responsible for following procedures, if they discover that something isn't quite right. Giving folks the credit where credit is due, is just as important as expressing your views. Sometimes it can be helpful in an assigned story, or a real-life example, to put yourself in the professor's shoes, or the student who first created the project's shoes, or superiors to the professor's shoes, etc. I hope that this helps you with your next draft of this assignment. Good Luck!
