Hi Keith,
You first want to isolate the term with e, so subtract 2 from both sides of the equation:
3e^x = 7
Now divide both sides by 3:
e^x = 7/3
now take the natural log of both sides:
ln e^x = ln 7/3
Do the power rule of logarithms:
x ln e = ln 7/3
To isolate x, divide both sides by (ln e):
x = (ln 7/3) / (ln e)
plug that into your calculator and you should get x is approximately 0.847.
