Over the 10+ years of tutoring professionally, I have accumulated worksheets on just about every topic, and will forward those for extra practice if needed.

Some of my background: As an outlet for my love of teaching, I began tutoring math and reading at an adult literacy center. That experience honed my skills in targeting problem areas and finding new ways to present material. I graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor in Biology, and then worked at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. While there, I attended graduate classes in Environmental Chemistry. I then moved to Durham, NC and worked at Duke University Medical Center in the Department of Molecular Mycology. I have co-authored several publications in top-tiered scientific journals.

When I left the lab in 2005, I attended the American College of Health Sciences where I earned a degree in holistic health and aromatherapy. Please read my blog on aromatherapy and its use for people with ADD/ADHD to help calm them and focus better.

I look forward to helping you or your child.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Having tutored in the Wake County area for over 10 years, I am familiar with the WCPSS math curriculum. When the Common Core standards came on the scene in 2012, I had to quickly adopt the new material being taught. I am now well versed in Common Core Math, levels 1, 2 and 3, which is a combination of Algebra 1 & 2, geometry, and discrete math. I also tutor all of the honors classes mentioned above.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is now combined with the Common Core standards, which is composed of statistics, probability and discrete math. I took Population Statistics in college, a required course for my biology major, which helped equip me for tutoring the Common Core topics.
Geometry,

Geometry

I enjoy helping students who have trouble visualizing how to solve problems, or where to start when trying to solve a proof. Often times a diagram might have too many lines for a student to comprehend what they are looking at. I can help them to dissect a problem into smaller, easier parts, until the whole puzzle is put together and be able to see the bigger picture.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I began tutoring Pre-algebra as a volunteer at an inner city elementary school in Baltimore, MD. for about 3 years. Typically, students struggle in Pre-algebra because they are not skilled with basic math facts, so I make sure they are proficient in that. Tutoring as a volunteer has helped me to quickly target weak areas and help the student to improve upon those.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Precalculus was not an offered subject when I was attending school way back when. After Algebra 2, you took trigonometry and then calculus. Times have changed, so I took two semesters of online precalculus classes (parts 1 & 2) at BYU, and got high A's in both courses. I have experience tutoring high school precalculus and have worked with students from Wake Tech.

Trigonometry

I tutor all levels of trigonometry from basic right triangle trig, which is taught in middle school, to the more advanced level found in precalculus classes. I can help students solve trig identities (which can be like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle without a picture), trig equations, navigation word problems, and more!

Patient and knowledgeable tutor

Cristl worked with my son on foundational geometry. We want him to be ahead this year. He said she was a great tutor, very patient. Thank you! We look forward to working with you again.

Very good at explaining topics and is very clear with her explanations for Geomery

Cristl is definitely a 5 star rating. I just clicked the wrong button on accident after my daughters first session with Cristal A. It was my error. I felt so bad about it and I will call Wyzant tomorrow to help me out to fix it from 2 start to 5 star rating. My daughter told me that she is very good at explaining topics and is very clear with her explanations. After today's firs section with Cristl, my daughter has confident to do the Geometry homework. My daughter likes to have Cristl to help her out so she can do better on her High School Summer Geometry Class.

Excellent and professional

Cristl tutored my son in areas of algebra that he was missing because he is going to a different high school next year that followed a different curriculum. He told me that the concepts were difficult but she explained very clearly and he understood things quite quickly. Before hiring her I had estimated that he would need multiple sessions. After just two sessions she said he was ready. She did not drag it out even though I had expected, and been willing to pay for, more sessions. Connecting with her online was also very convenient. I feel fortunate to have found such an effective and professional tutor for my son.

Wonderful!!!

Cristl is just wonderful! She explains things in a manner that my child understands and retains. ;-) She has been so helpful to us this year! We couldn't have gotten through geometry without her.

Smiles after 1 session

So relieved to see smiles on my high school junior’s face after 1 session of PreAP Algebra 2 with Cristl. She really likes Cristl’s approach and style and finally understands what her teacher has been teaching. Planning on sessions with Cristl until school is out in May. #godsend #happymom

Great math tutor

My daughter has had many math tutors over the years, but this was the first online lesson she has had. She love it! She said Cristl was great and went above and beyond to help her understand everything. 5 Stars

Experienced and Patient Tutor

Cristl helped my daughter is Algebra 2 in April 2019. The lesson covered parabolas. After the first hour, my daughter felt confident about the lesson, and suggested she would like to collaborate with Cristl again for assistance in Alg 2, and even for future math classes.

Thoughtful & knowledgeable

Cristl was able to make my daughter feel comfortable discussing where she is struggling in Math. In order for her to build back her self esteem, you have to go back to the foundation and this is just what Cristl has done. This is just the beginning but she took on the challenge of helping with a short window of time. I wish I had found her much earlier!

Knowledgeable and patient teacher

Ashley claimed that Christl was excellent and really helped her to understand. We have called on 3 - 4 different tutors from Wyzant and Ashley claims that Christl kept things simple and focused on the lesson. We will be calling on her again.
