Using the hardy weinberg formula find out the following from the information below.

 

You are researching a newly discovered species of fish. Fish either have very large fins or very small fins and you have determined that large fins is dominant to small. When you do a population study you find that 36% of fish have small fins. Using this information, what percentage of fish in your system would have a homozygous dominant genotype?

We are told that 36% of the fish have small fins, and that small fins are recessive. That means these fish are homozygous recessive (genotype ss).

The Hardy-Weinberg equation is: p²+2pq+q²=1

Where:

1. p² = frequency of homozygous dominant genotype (SS)
2. 2pq = frequency of heterozygous genotype (Ss)
3. q² = frequency of homozygous recessive genotype (ss)

Answer: 16% of the fish have the homozygous dominant (SS) genotype.
