Hi Keith;
^3√¯x + 5 = 3
[3√(x)]+5=3
Our first priority is to establish domain. Because we can cube-root a negative and positive number, there are no limitations on domain.
Let's subtract 5 from both sides...
[3√(x)]+5-5=3-5
3√x=3-5
Let's cube both sides...
(3√x)3=(-2)3
Because (1/3)(3)=1. x is now x1, x.
(1/3) is another expression for cube-root, 3√.
x=(-2)(-2)(-2)
x=-8
This is the same answer as Adam's.
