Let 

x = # pound of $7 tea

y = # pound of $2 tea

 

x + y = 70

7x + 2y = 3.5(70)

 

Since x+y=70

x = 70-y

 

Using substitution

7x + 2y = 245

7(70-y) + 2y = 245

490-7y+2y = 245

490-5y=245

245 = 5y

y = 49

and since

x = 70-y

x = 70-49 = 21

 

We need 21 pound of the $7 tea and 49 pounds of the $2 tea.
