First, separate the items into pairs and put them into two columns.
Then, notice the vowels and consonants in each word. There will be a vowel, a consonant, a sequence of vowels or consonants in the first column ("likes") that are not in the second column ("dislikes"). Sometimes, this game uses just a single letter, like 'e' for example, that appears in one word and not the other. Also, double consonants make a fun game. Look for letters in alphabetical order versus out of order, single and multiple syllables, starting and ending vowels/consonants, and other items that make the words themselves different.
It usually doesn't take long to determine what makes the difference between the spelling or pronunciation of words (not the meanings).
