The gig went well, but the band received 3 speeding tickets on the way there. After the tickets are paid, the band divided up the money left with each person getting an equal share. Each speeding ticket cost $150. If the band was paid $1250 at the gig, how much money did each band member receive? Write two algebra equations, then solve.

a) Let's write the algebraic equations:

Profit = Band pay - 3*Ticket cost 

Each band member's pay = Profit / Number of people

 

b) Now we solve:

Profit = $1250 - 3*$150 = $1250 - $450 = $800

The band made $800 Profit.

Each band member's pay = $800/5 = $160.

So each band member gets $160.

You need to multiply the cost of each speeding ticket by the number of speeding tickets. Then, subtract that amount from the total the band was paid. Then, divide up the remaining money amongst the number of band members. Remember when writing equations: PEMDAS
