Vector Genetics DNA

You digest a 2000kb region of DNA with EcoRI and get three fragments. The middle fragment is 300bp. You take the middle fragment and clone it into a vector that is 700bp.

a) How large will the vectors be that do NOT contain your DNA fragment?

b) How large will the vectors be that contain your DNA fragment?

Please show all work! Thanks!

Mr. Raj,

I do not know if you gave me a poor grading or Wyzant did it.

Regardless, no one else has attempted to answer this question and my answer is accurate.

I could draw and prove my point but this platform does not allow me to include drawing and therefore, I had the limitation.

Any vector fragment ligation (joining) raise the possibility of multiple fragments going into the vector, the process is known as concatamerization and that alters the size.
