Karma is a concept in Buddhism and Hinduism.  One way to think of it is as described above.  So, I would say that sentence is true.

 

Another way to think of Karma is:  The sum of a person's actions in their current life and in previous lives which then causes their fate in future lives.  So, simply put,  it is fate or destiny based on previous actions.
