soccer club spent $97.50 on trophies from a trophy company. The cost of manufacturing x custom trophies is $18.50 for the setup cost, plus$12.50 per trophy. To ship the trophies, the company charges a fee of $4 per order plus $2.50 per trophy. How many trophies did the soccer club order?

total = t x unit cost + t x shipping per unit + setup + order fee

 

then $97.50 = t($12.50) + t($2.50) + $18.50 + $4.00

 

combining, we get $75 = $15t

 

solving t = 5 trophies

Adding up the cost we have 18.50 set up

plus 12.50x manufacturing cost + 4 order fee

plus 2.5x mailing fees..  They add to 97.5

 

18.5 + 12.5x + 4 + 2.5x = 97.5

 

Combine like terms and solve for x

 

15x + 22.5 = 97.5

 

subtract 22.5 from both sides

 

15x = 75

 

divide both sides by 15

 

x = 75/15 = 5 trophies ordered
