The term homozygous means that a particular genetic trait has a gene pair called an alleles that are identical thus bb is homozygous whereas bB would be herterozygous for the same trait. Also BB would be homozygous for the same trait. Typically capital letters stand for Dominant alleles and small case letters stand for recessive alleles. A particular trait is composed of at least one pair of alleles, but many such as eye color are complicated by being controlled by multiple allele pairs.
