Hello,
From what I gather, teens tend to use the amygdala, producing "gut" reactions. Adults, on the other hand, tend to use their frontal cortex, which is used for reasoning and planning. I believe the difference results from the fact that teens haven't yet fully developed their frontal cortex, which usually finishes developing by their early 20s.
