Here are a few I can think of based on my experience.
First, bilingual people have a broader realm of thought because they have more words to assign to concepts. There are so many ideas and objects that can be described by, for example, a Chinese word/phrase but not an English word/phrase.
Multilingual people can communicate with a greater number of people. Therefore, a country with multilingual citizens has greater and easier trade and education opportunities.
People who speak more languages are often more accepting of foreign cultural aspects. This allows greater diversity and acceptance of ideas, methods, etc that could be useful to the nation as a whole.
Multilingual people can learn certain things better and more quickly than monolingual people. For example, new languages and even music.
Multilingual have more education opportunities than monolingual people. Education opportunities depend on much more than just this factor, of course; however, imagine being able to read not only great thinkers from the English-speaking world but also from the Spanish, French, or Mandarin-speaking world!
You will have to find research that supports this, but at least these can point you in the right direction for your research! Good luck!
