Marissa, this is a harsh assessment of poverty. It's an example of exaggeration, prejudice and repeated fallacies. Let me explain.
Poverty is poverty. It may or may not give you strength or teach you lessons. While some people are defeated by poverty, many others fight against it, gaining valuable skills in the process. Consequently, the premise of the opening statement is false and unsubstantiated.
The second sentence again proffers an unsubstantiated claim and a bit of inverted logic. Since "poverty" is the condition of being poor, there would be no reason to be taught how to be poor.
I would give this writer a D on the quote.
