Well, to begin with, choose a character who has 5 seperate important moments in the novel (and choose the moments). If, for example, you're choosing Scout, you might consider as one of your moments the scene in front of the courthouse, when she stops the mob from lynching Tom (and possibly her father as well). This is definitely a moment that could be included in Scout's "progression" from naive girl at the beginning of the story, to a budding young adult at the end. Once you've got your moments planned out, pick items from that moment that seem to stand out to you-- maybe a rifle or a jail door or something similar.
I hope it works for you! Good luck.
