Question

I have to make up a story and write a paragraph. Our topic is "The Drought" and I have to use 10 vocabulary words and the words are: 1. pretense   we have to have each vocab in each sentence but i don't know how to do it. Can you please help me?

Several strategies to help with writing using a list of assigned words and an assigned topic include these suggestions to assist you.  Do you have an understanding of the meaning, usage, and part of speech of each word?  For example, "abrupt' means "sudden";part of speech is adjective; used to modify nouns; and is used, for example as "abrupt departure" meaning to depart or leave suddenly."  Please review the following example with explanations given to guide you in the process.

                  

     Unfortunately, our part of the country has had to accept the  profound truth:  We are experiencing a drought so severe that the rationing of water to each man, woman, and child will have to be the next step to take in the water prevention plan  to  slow the water consumption and extend the supplies.  The plan has been announced in the social medias and the emphasis placed on the immediate need for this abrupt measure to begin. The people have muttered about this policy, considering it a slur on the citizens that they cannot be responsible for their own personal measures. 

 

I have written a example demonstrating the use of the strategies I have suggested.  Let me point out a few items in the example.  Profound is an adjective modifying a noun^{;  meaning} deep in truth or theory.  Therefore, I am going to use this in some sentence about the deep or absolute truth of something related to "The Drought."( I am assuming that you can write a fictional paragraph for this assignment.)  I continue developing my paragraph around this beginning to build the paragraph about some deep truth or theory about the drought: trying the vocabulary words to fit in sentences to continue the paragraph and relating the sentences to maintain an organized paragraph on your topic.

 

Keep in your mind the original suggestion of making sure that you know definition, the part of speech for each word, and practice using it to understand the usage of the word to fit into the context of your paragraph.

I recommend you take a moment to Google the drought (rhymes with “out”) to find out what it’s about. I see your mailing address is Hawaii. Is that correct? Being from the lower 48 states, I’m more familiar with the drought as it affects California. Is there a drought in Hawaii? If not, that's okay. You can still talk about a drought in general terms.
Once you feel like you understand what a drought is, you’ll want to find the shortest definitions for those vocabulary words. You can use an online dictionary or a hardback dictionary, whichever you like.

 

When you write the definitions on paper or type them, you'll understand those words. Then it's time to write sentences that make a paragraph.
I see that the words you’ve been given will work well if you tell a story that is one paragraph long! Use those words to tell a little story about the drought.  Eleven sentences will give you a beginning, a middle and an end.
