yesterday, a hiker began liking at 2850 feet above sea level, claimed over a 5575 foot summit and descended 2695 feet before stoping before night what was the hikers's net gain or loss during the day? how did you get your answer?

The hiker started at a height of 2850ft then ascended to a height of 5575ft which was a gain

of  5575-2850 = 2725 ft. at the top of the summit.

He then descended

 

If the then went back down 2695 feet after going up 2725 ft then he ends up

2725-2695 = 30 ft higher that when he started

 

There was a net gain of 30 ft
