Stop trying to write the essay you think they want to read. Admissions committees can feel the performance from the first sentence. What grips a reader is specificity and honesty, a detail so particular it could only be yours. In my experience the strongest essays are built around stories the applicant almost did not include. That instinct to protect yourself is usually pointing directly at the material that will make you memorable. My job is to help you find it, trust it, and build something true around it.

Be authentic. As a former application reader for UC San Diego, I can tell you firsthand how important it is to write in your authentic voice. In other words, a personal statement is NOT a formal letter, literary analysis, or research report. It is about YOU, so be certain to write in the first person.
Also, don't incorporate information that is available on your application, resume, or cv. Your personal statement should NOT be a reiteration of your accomplishments. Use the space to convey something about yourself that is not available or apparent elsewhere.
Lastly, it's not a memoir. Focus your thinking to an event, period of time, or experience that has brought you to where you are today.
Good luck!
Writing an authentic personal statement, essay of intent to get into a special school, and making a stand-up job-application-request are essential, but most high-school instructors lack the time, resources, and the extreme obstacles to execute this feat; thus, one student of wealth and the right demographics masters the personal letter of intent over a minority student that is poor, lacks class benefits, and is marginalized by language ability, access to computers, libraries, and support groups, as well as health groups. Therefore, the under-class exists; and cultural disparity exists because education and community services are not present in poverty zones, which are fundamental needs for success.

Honestly it all boils down to this: can you accurately reflect your passion & drive in the statement or essay?
Drawing in a reader, especially one from a college or other committees, requires a level of tactical thinking (how can you present your passion in an engaging way without overwhelming), a finesse with sentence structure (it needs to be varied or it can be boring to the individual who reads), & a personal touch (what event or story has driven you down this path?).
That's just a few of the aspects that make a personal statement or essay successful.

How to Write a Personal Statement that Unlocks Doors & Potential
Writing a genuine, impactful personal statement or essay is one of the hardest tasks of any application process. How do you summarize yourself in one paragraph?
You have a few sentences to authentically describe yourself and your greatest hits. Think about the achievements and attributes you want to highlight. Then focus on word choice and phrasing. To stand out, you need a memorable personal statement. Review some examples and study them for what they share and the flow.
Once you understand the game, you can break the rules. That means presenting yourself in a unique way that includes, but goes beyond, your necessary content. Try writing this a few times using different creative approaches and themes. For example, you could describe yourself from the POV of a detective in a noir novel. Get as creative as you can and see how far outside of your comfort zone you are willing to go.
