Which room is bigger and by how much?

In a scale drawing of an efficiency apartment, 1 cm represents 8 ft. The drawing shows the living room is 2.1 cm long and 3.2 cm wide; the bedroom measures 1.8 cm wide and 3.6 cm long. Find the area of each room in feet. Which room is bigger and by how much?

Living room:  (2.1 cm)(8 ft/cm)= 16.8ft long

                     (3.2 cm)(8 ft/cm)= 25.6 ft wide

 

                    Area = length*width

                 = (16.8)(25.6) = 430.08 ft²

 

Bedroom:  (1.8 cm)(8 ft/cm)= 14.4 ft wide

                (3.6 cm)(8 ft/cm)= 28.8 ft long

                 

                 Area= 14.4(28.8) = 414.72 ft²

 

the living room is larger by 430.08-414.72=15.36 ft²
