Great question! Before the development of imaging, and tests like the NIPT, there was no way of knowing if you were having a boy or girl until the birth!
Luckily, with the development of medical technologies and laboratory testing, you can determine the sex of your child earlier on! With an ultrasound, you can determine the sex of your child at around 18-20 weeks on the anatomy scan. With the development of the NIPT (noninvasive prenatal test) you can have your blood checked for X and Y chromosomes, which can tell you the sex of your baby. If you have any Y chromosome found, you can know you're having a boy! Otherwise, a girl!
