Wait, so does an object itself actually physically do something when light is reflected or refracted on the item to show the item color? Like for instance a red ball?

So the object doesn’t do anything. It’s the light that does right?

The object absorbs every color that you do not see. So the object does do something.

It depends on what you mean by "do something". The ball isn't acting intelligently or actively intervening when the light is being reflected or refracted. The colors of light that will be reflected or refracted are properties of the object. Note that the reflectance or transmission of light for an object may change over time or due to external conditions. One example would be a coat of paint that fades due to sunlight or dirt. The object is not actively participating in reflecting the light, but the reflectance behavior has changed.

If, by "do something", you mean "do the molecules in the object affect the transmission or reflectance of photons", then you could say the object or molecules are doing something. This would be a good question to discuss with the instructor or in class. I think you could answer "yes" or "no" depending on how you interpret the question.

So the object does not actively do something right? Thank you for your explanation!
