To quickly find the theme in a story, start by looking at the main problem and how it gets solved. Think about what the characters do and decide, and what lessons they learn by the end. Notice repeated ideas, symbols, and important conversations. Also, look at the title and any key quotes that seem to sum up the story. Think about how these parts connect to a bigger message or lesson about life.
