Is classifying humans as an “animal” the same definition as how the term “animal” is used in daily conversation? Or are those different?

Are humans animals? Are animals humans? Does classifying humans as animals mean they’re also considered “non human animals” like the term is used in daily conversation to refer to non human animals?

So, is this basically saying like a human is the same as a dog? Or no, not necessarily?

Here is our human taxonomy, which we share with dogs down through the taxon of class, as humans and dogs are mammals: Domain: Eukarya Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata: Class: Mammalia Order: Primates Family: Hominidae Genus: Homo Species: sapiens

But does the term animal regarding scientific classification have a different meaning than the term animal used in everyday colloquial conversation?
