What does it mean to classify a human as an animal? Does that mean that humans are in fact animals? Is this saying humans are “non human” animals?

Bio expert shristi Hello baacho..! Welcome to the world of bio.

So are you saying humans are animals? Like humans are a dog or a cat? Or is the homologous definition of animals different than the term we use in everyday conversation?

Hello Hailey, First, Human are animals. When you say animal biologically, Human falls on animal kingdom. All living organisms fall either in animal or plant kingdom in general. Human are thus animals. We are mammals like dogs, cats, tigers, rats etc. However, we are different than other animals based on our cognitive ability (ability to think, process information, intelligence, learning etc.) and the way we have control on our environment. We are intellectually different, advanced and special creatures compared to animals. However, we are one of the animals biologically. I hope it helps a bit to clarity.

So, are humans animals and are animals human? Thank you for your response and time! Or are humans simply a type of animal or species and then there are other species and that’s how humans are different from animals and so they aren’t animals either bc they’re not the exact same species?
