There are actually 2 "th" sounds in English. The unvoiced sound is heard in the words "thumb," "think," "bathroom," "three," "math," and "both." The voiced "th" sound is heard in the words "they," "this," "that" "other," and "bathe."
Both are made with the same tongue placement. The tongue tip is protruded slightly past the front teeth. The tip of the tongue presses upward against the front upper teeth. For the unvoiced sound, there is no voicing, or buzzing of the throat. For the voiced sound, voicing is present. This is made by vibration of the vocal cords.
