If Room and Board is 26% and Tuition is 64%, than you just take the difference in percent. 64-26 to get 38%. Then multiply $15,000 and 38% to get $5700. In other response, $9600 - $3900 DOES NOT = $6000, RATHER $5700

Since you know the total budget amount and the percentages spent on the various things you simply need to figure out the dollar amount for tuition and room and board and then find the difference. 

To find the amount spent on tuition, find 64% of $15,000 by multiplying $15,000 by .64 which gives you $9600. For the room and board find 26% of $15,000 by multiplying $15,000 by .26 which gives you $3900. Now subtract to find how much more was spent on tuition: $9600 - $3900 = $6000
