What is the max height of the ball?

A ball is throw into the air with a velocity of 24ft per second its height h in feet after t seconds is given by the function h=-16t² h=-16t²+24t+7. In how many seconds does the ball reach its max height?

If you are solving this problem using derivatives it is done as follows:

 

The ball will reach its maximum when the derivative of the funciton equals 0

 

h = -16t² +24t +7

 

dh/dt = -32t + 24  (this is the derivative and we will set this equal to 0

 

0 = -32t + 24

 

32t = 24

 

t = 3/4   (so the ball will reach its maximum after 3/4 of a second

 

the height at that point will be 16 ft
