Mitosis is when a eukaryotic cell duplicates the contents of its nucleus and produces two identical nuclei from one, each daughter nucleus containing an identical genome. There are multiple steps in the mitotic process that I can help you review or learn and understanding mitosis will help you to learn meiosis as well.
Whereas mitosis occurs in your somatic cells, meiosis occurs only in germ line cells, the cells that generate male and female gametes. While mitosis of a diploid somatic cell --a body cell with a double set of chromosomes-- produces two daughter cells that are diploid, the process of meiosis produces haploid gametes (cells that have just one set of chromosomes, meaning half the normal genome). There are two stages to meiosis and some of the process is very much like mitosis, while other parts are different. I can help you learn and review both processes
