Gerald peered into his wallet and found $270 in $10 and $20 bills. If there were 6 more $10 bills than $20 bills, how many of each did he have?

270 = 10x +20y tens Plus twenties value sum to $270

27 = x +2y

x =6+y, 6 more tens than twenties

27 = 6+y +2y = 6+3y

3y = 27-6 =21

y = 21/3 = 7 twenties

x = 27-2y= 27-2(7) = 13 tens
