A small can of peas has a radius of 0.75 inches and a height of 1.5 inches. A large can of peas has a height of 5.25 inches. What is the radius?

We will use a proportion.

 

Ratio of radii = ratio of height

 

(0.75 / x) = (1.5 / 5.25)

 

Cross multiply.

 

1.5x = (0.75)(5.25)

1.5x = 3.9375

     x = 2.625

 

The radius of the large can is 2.625 inches.
