Hey Keanu,
There are multiple mechanisms by which antibodies induce tumor cell death.
- Direct method: Antibodies directly stimulate receptors on the cell thatresult in activation of apoptosis pathways and lead to cell death
- Complement Mediated: IgG binds to the complement factor C1q and leads to the formation of the membrane attach complex and cell lysis and death of the tumor cell
- immune Cell Mediated: Antibodies lead to tagging of tumor cells in a process called opsonization, which leads to recruitment of immune cells, such as NK cells, macrophages, and neutrophils, which then leads to cell death
