10+ of Making World History Relevant
Interesting question! Here is an outline on how to answer this for yourself:
- Decide which religions you are talking about, in contemporary China the government recognizes Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity (Protestant and Catholic), and Islam. Based on the question I believe you might be looking at historical religions as well: Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism.
- Which aspects of the religions you choose are the most helpful in daily life or create a sense of belonging and comfort? This is the characteristic which will most likely be used in the creation of a new religious doctrine.
Example: Confucianism's stress of servitude and reverence for elders and those in power is ripe for usage in new and evolving religions. This belief provides a pride in elders and family while making the population easier to control. This deferential attitude allows a religious movement time to iron out firm doctrine while maintaining a sense of the familiar within the change.
Remember they are asking about more than one religion!
