Hi!
Here is a step-by-step guide to success with this type of assignment:
Find a current news article — Look for something that interests you! You don’t have to read and study things that bore you. It will always help impassion your writing and make your work go faster (necessary when we have to juggle so much) if you keep your interests in mind with assignments like this.
!!! Search tip: Use Google search box and click on the “News” filter. Search anything that interests you to find a relevant article.
- Once you find an article, to cite you need the following information:
- Author(s) name
- Article title
- Publication date
- Publication title (ex: Los Angeles Times, National Geographic Magazine, etc…)
- URL if online
- Page numbers if printed publication or applicable (some digitzed sources will still have these)
- How to summarize: Answer critical questions such as these:
- What is the main purpose/argument of the piece?
- What are the four or five points of the article that the author uses to support their argument/purpose?
- Answer: How is it relevant today?
- What is the context it was written in?
- Who are the stakeholders
- How does this information impact high-level decisions (government, legal, etc…) and the average person?
