How are Jews worldwide related to Israel and its causes?

Shelley G.

Jews have lived in that part of the world since ancient times, well before the birth of Christ. Expelled twice from what is now called Israel, the Jewish people fled to many countries all over the world. In response to worldwide anti-semitism in the late 19th Century exemplified by the Dreyfous trial in France, Jewish leaders began to resettle Israel and called for recognition of it as a Jewish homeland. After the systematic attempt to annihilate the Jewish population of Europe by the Nazis in WWII, Israel became officially recognized as the Jewish homeland by the United Nations in 1948.
