Tell me about yourself. This is the most common question asked during a residency interview. Most people assume that the interview questions will be about their application however many interviewers do not have access to the application at all or only have pieces of it. Many interviewers are just looking to start a conversation to see if the applicant can break away from the rigid confines of "the interview". They are looking for people who are friendly and communicate well. They are going to be stuck with you for 3-4 years typically and want someone who is going to be easy and fun to work with.

Well written ! Thanks for including context and rationale for the question ("Why would they ask that?"). Now, the candidate can provide information valuable to the employer (what others say about me) rather than just my opinion about myself (after all, it is not all about me).10/03/22
