A ribosome contains two subunits, a small and a large subunit. Both of these subunits are composed of proteins and ribosomal RNA.
The difference between bound and free ribosomes is that bound ribosomes are attached to the rough ER/nuclear envelope and free ribosomes are found in the cytosol. In general, bound ribosomes produce proteins that are meant to be excreted or integrated in the plasma membrane. Free ribosomes produce proteins that are used inside of the cell.
