a) .95^7 = about 69.83% chance all 7 think their mother-in-law is a royal pain in the neck
Actually there have been some Native American Indian tribes who had rules that the newly married would never live with the in-laws, as it causes too much familydisharmony.
then there's that pop song "Mother-in Law" with the same basic theme. Song lyrics include the lines: "Satan should be her name. To me they're about the same" Song by Ernie K. Doe.
We have a Mother's Day in May, and a far less observed or noticed Mothers'-In-Law Day, October 22, just 9 day before Halloween. Black Cat Day is Oct. 27, also relatively unknown. All prelude to Oct. 31 Halloween with witches and then on to the obviously scariest day of the year: Election day & results in early November.
b) None dislike Mom in Law = (.05)^7 = 0.00000000078125
= 0.000000078125 % chance 0 of 7 find her annoying = nearly zero probability
c) at least 5 of 7 = Pr(5)+Pr(6) +P(7)
d) no more than 4 of 7 probability = Pr(0)+Pr(1)+Pr(2)+Pr(3)+Pr(4)
= c)'s probability subtracted from 100%
the c) and d) probabilities sum to 100%
this question probably fits under the category "Probability" more than "statistics" or other math categories. Maybe fits under "sociology" too. Maybe even "psychology" too. Sociologists and Psychologists do research that includes this type of data and probabilities. Don't ask OJ Simpson though, even if he does have a USC degree in sociology, although OJ may know a little about disharmony in the marriage, and their view of mom-in law
