Hi Angie P.,
Even a single-celled organism has to do the same things to split itself into two. But single-celled organisms sometimes don't have their DNA in multiple chromosomes, do they. So, it comes down to, what is the terminology? For prokaryotes, it's called "binary fission", not mitosis. But for eukaryotes, some of which may be unicellular, it's called mitosis, sometimes! Suggest you take the time to look up "asexual reproduction" on Wikipedia, to get a broader picture. There's a LOT more detail to appreciate in that question!
