Two airplanes are carrying food and medical supplies to a country in need. One airplane is carrying

67 meals and 55 medical kits. The total cost for the supplies on that airplane is $763. The other airplane is carrying 78 meals and 55 medical kits. The total cost for the supplies on that airplane is $807. Write and solve a system of equations to find the price of one meal and the price of one medical kit. If a third airplane is carrying 70 meals and 63 medical​ kits, what is the total cost of​ supplies?

67x + 55y = 763

78x + 55y = 807

subtract 1st from 2nd equation gives

11x = 44

x = $4 for one meal

55y = 763 - 67(4) = 763-268 = 495

y = 495/55 = $9 for one medical kit

70(4) + 63(9) = 280 + 567 = $847 for 70 meals & 63 medical kits
