4, photosynthesis and cellular respiration each make what the other one needs to happen, is the correct answer.
In a simplified overview, photosynthesis is using carbon dioxide, water, and energy to make glucose and oxygen. Cell respiration is the opposite, using glucose and oxygen to yield carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Their overall chemical equations are basically the reverse of each other:
photosynthesis 6 CO2 + 6 H2O --> C6H12O6 + 6 O2
cell respiration C6H12O6 + 6 O2 --> 6 CO2 + 6 H2O
- is wrong because both photosynthesis and cell respiration happen inside plant cells
- is wrong because cell respiration has carbon dioxide as a product, but in photosynthesis, it is a reactant
- is wrong because photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast but cell respiration takes place in the mitochondria
