The arithmetic mean is the average of 2 or more numbers.
The arithmetic mean of x and y is: (x + y)/2.
The geometric mean is the square root of the product of two numbers.
For example: the geometric mean of 4 and 9 is 6, the square root of 4*9.
This comes from the following equation: 9/x = x/4, the x's being the means and the 9 and 4 being the extremes.
