Hello Lia,
This is a fascinating question. I'm curious what brought it up, as it's a little hard to answer outside of that context. That being said, these questions come to mind:
- Financial policies
- How might a place benefit financially (make or keep more money) by being independent?
- How might a place suffer financially (miss out on or lose money) by being independent?
- Legal freedom
- How might a place have more power to make/enforce their laws by being independent?
- How might a place have less power to make/enforce their laws by being independent?
- Citizens' safety
- How might citizens be safer, if the place is independent?
- How might the citizens be in danger, if the place is independent?
- Citizens' rights
- How might the citizens have more rights, if the place is independent?
- What might happen to give the citizens fewer rights, if the place is independent?
Those questions aren't terribly specific, but they may help you structure a reflection on the topic. Best wishes!
