I am an English & Special Education teacher & love helping all kinds of learners!

I received my Bachelor of Arts in English (High School Teaching) from UNC-G in 2016. I chose English/Language Arts because communication skills are crucial to academic and professional success today. My focus is preparing students for their future; I help students of all proficiency levels improve their essay structure, reading comprehension, timed writing, reading fluency, ACT/SAT prep, and more, in grades 9-12. I work with ESL students and students with disabilities, and am a licensed English/Language Arts teacher for grades 9-12.

I most recently led a classroom of students with special needs. Many had language delays; I still use data-based practices to deliver/adjust lessons daily. In all subjects, I focus on students' expressing (and receiving) ideas appropriately for social, academic, and/or occupational success. I love discussing individual strengths, weaknesses, and methods to help students access as much content as possible. My planning considers multiple perspectives and learning styles; I approach every student with patience and an open mind. I am a licensed Adapted Curriculum (Severely/Profoundly Disabled) teacher for grades K-12.

I've tutored a range of students from second grade to graduate school, in English, Arithmetic, German, conversational & professional ESL, and Time Management. I love spending time with students and sharing resources for independent learning. I look forward to achieving great things together!

***Due to Covid-19, I currently only tutor online.***

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

I have worked with students with ADHD as a tutor and teacher. Some of these lessons have focused on time management and organizational strategies, while others have centered more around filling in gaps in academic understanding which might not be fully addressed at school. It all just depends on my student. Recently I have also had extensive experience working with students with multiple overlapping conditions, often including attention- or organization-related issues. As with all of my other students, I work with my students with ADHD to understand their goals, current strengths, and help them build knowledge and habits that will allow them to reach the places that they want to go in life.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I recently taught full-time at a school for young adults with special needs; I'm taking a break due to Covid-19, but have have several years of experience and multiple teaching licenses. Between teaching, tutoring, and babysitting, I have worked with autistic students from the age of 4 to 22, with a variety of other interacting diagnoses (such as visual/auditory impairments, OCD, intellectual disabilities, and so forth.) I have worked with verbal and non-verbal students, and have some experience with ASL, AAC devices, and assistive technology as a replacement or supplement for spoken language. I have helped autistic students succeed both in common core and in adapted curriculum academic settings, and look forward to continuing to do so.
Dyslexia,

Dyslexia

I have learned about experiences and educational approaches to teaching dyslexic students as a part of becoming a licensed English/ language arts teacher. I have tutored dyslexic students of different ages, and been able to successfully implement techniques from the ESL, reading comprehension, and literary analysis lessons I have taught, as well as researched methods for dyslexia in particular. I find that patience and discussion are two of the most important aspects in helping students with dyslexia become stronger readers (and writers) and I relish the opportunity to work with these students further.

Makes learning fun

My son HATES school, but Anna makes learning fun for him that when I asked him, “How was tutor?” He jumps with a smile, “It was fun! She was really nice. I need to thank her for helping me”

FUN, HELPFUL and WELL PREPARED

Anna has been working with our adult son with ASD for almost 2 months now. She is always on time, very attentive, knows his needs and can find the right approach to the goals we set together in the beginning. Comes well prepared and keeps our son engaged on each session. Will work with you collaboratively and open to inputs that would make the tutorial more interesting and beneficial to a student. We are so grateful to have found Anna and we would not hesitate to recommend her to other families.

knowledgeable, a good listener and understanding

Anna is a great teacher. I do like her explanation. Once I struggled with understanding the question, she explains it to me. She understands her students' needs and tries to simplify and answer their questions.
