I need help with my algebra work, i'm home schooled and my mum doesn't know how do do algebra, please help!

4y-2x=17
And
2y over 3-x=z

I think you mean "solve the equation for y".
4y-2x = 17
Add 2x to both sides:
4y - 2x (+2x) = 17 (+2x)
4y = 2x + 17 (it's okay to switch the order since it's addition)
Divide both sides by 4:
4y/4 = 2x/4 + 17/4
y = x/2 + 17/4
Remember whatever you do to one side of an equation, you must also do to the other side!
4y-2x=17
remove -2x from the left side by adding 2x and do to the right side, also.
Result: 4y=2x+17
Divide the left side by 4 to get y alone and do to the other side, also.
y=1/2x+17/4
