The Boston Tea Party played an important role in uniting the colonists against the British. Most of the men who took control of the ships were under the age of 25. As young men they had a different view of their colony than did the older citizens and British officials.
They united themselves to occupying the ships because of (1) the increase in the tea tax by the British government, (2) the fact that the British Governor of Boston was more anxious to obey his superiors in London than listening to the citizens of Boston.
After the "Tea Party" the realization that they, the colonists could stand up to their British officials helped to increase their patriotism and develop their national feeling.
