A student-teacher wants to divide a class into groups to work on a project. He'd like to have somewhere between 4 and 6 students in each group and wants every group to have the same number of students.
VERY SIMPLE:
For a class size of 27, groups of size 4 do not allow the same number in each group. 27/4 has remainder of 3.
For a class size of 27, groups of size 5 do not allow the same number in each group. 27/5 has a remainder of 2.
For a class size of 27, groups of size 6 do not allow the same number in each group. 27/6 has a remainder of 3.
Is 27 a multiple of 4? Is 27 a multiple of 5? Is 27 a multiple of 6? When your answer is YES, you have a possible group size.
MORE ADVANCED:
The prime factors of 27 are 3*3*3. This means that you may have 3 groups of 3*3=9,, or 3*3=9 groups of 3, or 1 group of 27.
