Two machines make boxes for hockey cars. On machine makes 200 boxes in 10 min. The other machine makes300 boxes in 10 min

find the total number of boxes the two machines make in

 

a) 1 min 

 

b) 25 min

First you want to figure out how many boxes they each make in one minute
200/10=20
300/10=30

then add them together 20+30=50

So in one min they make 50 cars

 

in 25 min -

 

25 * 50 = 1250

 

Not sure why you divided by 2  in the first part ?

200/10=20

300/10=30

 

then add them together  20+30=50

 

take 50 and divid it by 2 (2 meaning how many machines there are)

50/2=25

 

the machines together can make 25 boxes in one minute

 

to find out how many boxes in 25 minutes multiply 25 (boxes per minute)*25(minutes)

25*25=625

 

the machines make 625 boxes in 25 minutes

Machine A: 200 boxes in 10 minutes. So for one minute the ratio can be

 

a)   200:10 = x:1                           ( x is unknown (the number of boxes made in aone minute)

 

now solve this:

 

200/10 =x

 

20 boxes = x

 

b) for 25 minute the ratio can be

 

200:10 = x:25

 

now solve: 

 

200/10 = x/25

 

5000/10 =x

 

500 machines= x

 

Now lets work the same for machine B

 

a) 300:10=x:1

 

300/10 =x 

30 machines =x

 

b)  300:10=x:25

 

7500/10 =x

750 machines = x
